Update V1.0322026-01-15Hi Folks. It's been a while but we have just published a small update to add a couple of changes, fix a Unity security issue and a couple of minor bugs.* New - Added three new Cantrip spells (Level 0). Needle Bolt (Arcane), Malaise (Planar), Toughen (Divine). Each magic sphere now has a cantrip that can do damage, so spellcasters can still harm enemies when out of mana.* Change - Increased the range of Magic Bolt (Arcane 1) from 3 to 4.* Fix - Rebuilt with new version of Unity to prevent potential security issue. * Fix - Game could crash if a player unit dies after moving onto a trap.* Fix - Corrected minor issues with Wither, Lesser Vampiric
Update V1.0312024-05-24Hi Folks. Just a small update to fix a couple of minor bugs. * Fix - If a party has visited a level but none of them are currently on that level, the Jump Move button is highlighted and can be pressed but a jump move does not occur. Jump Move does not work between levels, so the button should not have been highlighted. * Fix - If the player casts a spell that targets their own units and a unit occupies a tile on another level that has the same tile number as the current level, the tile on the current level is highlighted even though there is no unit on it. We hope you enjoy this update and please let us know if you encounter any problems. All
Update V1.0302024-04-05Hi All. As promised in V1.026, we have just released an update to bring the movement options that were developed for Mystery at Morgoth (MaM) to The Curse. There is also a small bug fix included. * Jump Move - The party can immediately move to any point on the map it has previously visited. There are two new options in the Interface Options dialog that control the behavior of jump moves (Jump Move Uses Real Time and Confirm Jump Move). *** IMPORTANT NOTE *** This feature only works in a game that is in progress from the current position moving forward. Prior to this update the game will not have recorded which tiles your party has visited. *
Update V1.0292024-03-09Hi Folks. Just a small update to introduce a new feature requested by the Community, a game play improvement and fixes for some minor issues that we have uncovered while developing The Dark Tower. New Advanced Rule: Experience Balance. Only applies if 'AI Hit Point Bonus' is not zero. Adjusts the experience received from melee and ranged attacks so that characters receive the same XPs as when there is no adjustment to the AI unit's hit points. This means that your units will level up at roughly the same speed regardless of the AI Hit Point Bonus. Change: If a unit resists a spell due to its Magic Resistance attribute, the text "Magic Resistan
Demo Updated2023-12-11Hi All. Just a quick note to let you know that we have updated the DEMO to V1.028. This is a demo specific build and the main game remains at V1.027. The demo now has all the latest updates/fixes etc. All the best. Ian & Jann
Update V1.0272023-11-21Hi All. Just a small update to fix a few minor issues and add a small feature requested by the Community. New: Additional Party Banners. We have added two 'dread' banner choices for the flag that is displayed on the adventure map, to give your party that 'dark' feel. Change: The AI behavior for spellcasters has been improved so that units will attempt to fight, rather than cast, when they are short on mana (or only have cantrips available) and player units are nearby. We have also fixed a couple of small bugs that we discovered in testing. Please let us know if you have any problems with the update and we hope you enjoy the changed features.
Update V1.0262023-10-04Hi All. We have just released a really big update to add a number of improvements that we have developed in The Mystery at Morgoth (MaM). All the bug fixes that been identified in MaM over the last few months have also been included. * New Feature: The game will now automatically create a Saved Game when the player wins. This is so the player can return to this point at a later date or if they have Autosave set to greater than 1 turn (which may mean having to repeat some turns if coming back to the game later). * New Feature: We have added an information dialog that indicates a unit is a spell casting unit when it is created. It highlights th

Update V1.0252022-05-04Hi All. Just a small update to add a couple of features, the first of which has been asked for a couple of times by the Community. New: One-Way Magic Resistance This is a new Advanced Rule setting. When turned on, any units that have Magic Resistance will not resist a spell that has a Beneficial effect when it is cast on them. For example Bandage, Cure Light Wounds, etc. Note that spells that provide a unit with explicit protection (e.g. Magic Shield), will still prevent ALL SPELLS. New Combat Sounds: Punch We have added some more realistic sounds for when a unit strikes an enemy with their fists. Please let us know if you have any problems w
Update V1.0242022-04-11Hi Folks. Just a small update to address a couple of issues. New: Available Character Points We have added a text field to the Unit Card and the Unit Token to replace the Level Up icon with the actual number of Character Points the unit has available. An example is shown below: New Items: Magical Shuriken Magical +1 to +5 variants are now available. Changed: Final Boss A few players have found the final boss to be too difficult. We have modified his behavior to try and make him more balanced. Fixed: Market Item Tooltips On occasion the tooltip displayed over an item could reflect the usage value of a previously selected unit instead of the cu
Update V1.0232022-03-10Hi Folks. In this update we have changed a couple of behaviors to improve the overall game play and added a new spell. Changed: Scrolls - Copying Scrolls can now be copied to the Spellbook (for Arcane and Planar scrolls) without the risk of failure. A unit may not be able to cast the spell if it is not of sufficient level. The spell will be available for use as soon as the unit reaches the appropriate level. Changed: Scrolls - Casting Units now have a much improved chance of casting a spell from a scroll where the spell is of a higher level than they can normally cast. Changed: Neutral Units Any neutral unit that is a potential enemy will now
Update V1.0222022-01-04Hi All. This update introduces a new feature as well as two-handed weapons for 'small' units and a few changes to certain game play situations. New Feature: Add 'Specialized' to the Inventory Usability Filter A new option has been added to the Usability filter found on the Unit Inventory Dialog, the Market Dialog at Velarin when purchasing new items and the Loot Dialog when collecting treasure. The option allows you to filter displayed items to show those that match a unit's Weapon Specialization settings. Unit Inventory Dialog Market Additionally the Loot Dialog has added usability filters (1, 2 below) and has been slightly redesigned to acc
Update V1.0212021-12-22Hi All. This update introduces two new features as requested by the Community and fixes a bug that we have found during testing. New Feature: Hide Unit Class Markers New parameters have been added to the Player Options Dialog as shown below: Changing the parameters will allow you to hide/show the Unit Class Markers (wa, cl, ma, etc.) on the unit tokens on the battlefield and/or the unit cards anchored to the sides of the screen. The options can be different for the player units and the enemy/neutral units. New Feature: Open The Unit Dialog Via Keyboard If No Unit Selected On the battlefield, if no unit is selected, pressing an appropriate key
Update V1.0202021-12-13Hi Folks. The latest minor update addresses a small problem with the Custom Portraits folder. The help comment on the Choose Portrait Dialog did not detail the folder location correctly (it should be /Documents/Paphian Games/Portraits). We have also made some changes to the Weapon Loadouts section of the Unit Dialog to cover some unusual events that might occur when swapping loadout items back and forth between the loadout slots. Please let us know if you have any issues with the update. All the best. Ian & Jann
Update V1.0192021-12-04Hi All. We have just uploaded a hotfix for a bug that could occur when starting a new adventure and going to Velarin for the first time. We hope that this has not affected anybody too badly (reloading the Velarin save 'worked around' the problem) and please let us know if you have any issues with the update. All the best. Ian & Jann
Update V1.0182021-12-02Hi All. We have just uploaded a minor update V1.018 to add a new feature and some game play changes. We have also fixed a couple of problems that we spotted ourselves during testing. New Feature: Transparent Portrait Backgrounds A new option has been added to allow the game tokens and portraits in dialogs to be placed on a transparent (rather than colored) background. Changed: A new message is displayed which should help avoid confusion when completing the Ehrich quest at Hermit's Cave. Changed: Spotting hidden units/objects has been reworked to be more realistic. For example, a unit cannot spot a hidden enemy while the unit is Paralyzed, Asl
Update V1.0172021-11-27Hi All. We have just uploaded a hotfix for a bug introduced in V1.015, where restoring a game that was saved on the Adventure Map would not load properly. We've had a bit of a brain-meltdown with V1.015 and promise to do better next time!! Apologies to anyone who encountered this issue, hopefully all will be well now but please let us know if there are any further problems. All the best. Ian & Jann
Update V1.0162021-11-25Hi All. We have just uploaded a hotfix for a bug we inadvertently introduced in V1.015, related to Loadouts (restoring a Saved Game was not working correctly under some circumstances). Many thanks to OgreTheHill for spotting it and bringing it to our attention and apologies to anyone who may have come across this. Restoring a saved game should be ok now. All the best. Ian & Jann
Update V1.0152021-11-24Hi All. This update introduces three new features as requested by the Community and fixes a couple of bugs that we have found during testing. New Feature: Weapon Loadouts A unit's Inventory page now has a new button available to create/modify weapon loadouts, as shown below. Clicking the button will switch the 'paper doll' display to the display shown in the following image: To create a loadout you can either: a). Drag and drop an item from the Party Backpack to an appropriate slot. b). Click the Current button on a loadout slot (1) to select the items currently equipped. c). Drag and drop an item in a loadout to a different slot to 'clone' i
The Old Mill2021-11-02Hi Folks. Just a quick heads-up to let you know we have found a small 'glitch' in testing that could cause a game crash. The good news is that there is an easy workaround. When using the teleporters in The Old Mill it is possible for a sneaking unit to cause the error. A teleported unit always loses its sneaking condition anyway, so the easy solution is to 'un-sneak' any such unit before entering the teleport tile. We will have a fix for this in V1.015 which is in release testing at the moment and will be with you hopefully in the next few days. Apologies if you have already been tripped up by this issue but the workaround described will stop
Update V1.0142021-10-23Hi Folks. This update fixes a couple of bugs that have been reported by the Community as well as a couple that we have found ourselves during testing. Fixed: Using the Change Grid Levels button (in the button group at the bottom right of the battle screen) could cause a crash when playing The Old Mill and the party was split between levels. Fixed: Movement costs for ascending/descending stairs were not being calculated correctly such that some units were losing movement points for that turn. Fixed: The 'Buy' button for Supplies in the Market is not reset correctly when spending all Qaedi and then sell items to get more Qaedi. Fixed: The battl
Update V1.0132021-10-18Hi All. This update adds a new feature from the Feature Changelog, as well as a fix to the game mechanics for weapons with built-in abilities. New Feature: Compare Tooltip. With this change you will now be able to select an item on a character's Inventory page and compare its stats to other usable items of the same type. In the picture above you can see that the Power Sword is selected on the paper doll by left clicking the item and it is outlined in green (1). All items of the same type that are usable by the character are outlined in the Party Backpack in white (2). To compare one of the items in the backpack with the one the character is c
Update V1.0122021-10-12Hi Folks. This latest release, adds a couple of new connected features from the Feature Changelog, as well as a fix to re-spawn any lost quest items (the cause of this was fixed in V1.011). New Features: Custom Portraits and Free Choice On Portraits. We have redesigned the 'Choose Portrait' dialog as shown below: The buttons (1) will now allow you to make different portrait selections. 'Female and Male' will display all portraits for the unit's Species (3). The 'Female' and 'Male' buttons will filter by Species. Free Choice displays all portraits (including Custom Portraits which will be displayed last). If there are more portraits than can b
Update V1.0112021-10-09Hi All. A quick hotfix to prevent a nasty little bug that can occur when fighting the Quezzits in Feldar Palace. It is possible for them to steal a quest item which will prevent the game from completing. Unfortunately, if you have encountered this bug, the only solution is to restore to just before the Quezzit fight. Sorry! Edit: We will upload a patch in V1.012 that will re-spawn a missing quest item if this problem has occurred. In this case you should be able to continue the game from your current save point. Please let us know if you have any problems with this update. All the best. Ian & Jann
Update V1.0102021-10-07Hi All. This latest release features a number of small updates that have been requested by the Community plus one of our own, as well as a bug fix and a minor improvement to the Search Dialog. New Feature: Method to Manually Snap Camera to Player Unit. We have added a new parameter to the Player Options that allows you to 'snap' the camera to a unit and override the 'Center Camera on Selected Unit' option. This allows you to move to/locate a unit that is off-screen with a single right-click on its Unit Card. New Feature: Faster 'Recovered' Messages. A new parameter in the Interface Options allows you to decide whether the messages that appear
Update V1.0092021-10-04Hi Folks. We have just released a small update to introduce a new feature (as requested on the Feature Changelog) and to fix a couple of community reported bugs. We have also improved the information available when using the 'Select' button on the Unit Dialog. New Feature: Toggle the End of Turn (EOT) dialog. We have added two new buttons to the bottom right of the battlefield. The first (marked 1 on the screenshot) will toggle the EOT dialog on or off. The other is the Search button (marked 2 on the screenshot) which works in conjunction with the first button. If EOT dialog is on, the button will be unavailable. If the EOT dialog is off, the
Patch V1.0082021-09-28Hi All. We have just released a small update to introduce some new items (as requested on the Feature Changelog), fix a community reported bug as well as a couple of bugs found in internal testing. New Feature: Throwing Weapons for Clerics/Battlemages. We have added Culling Stone and Short Hammer to the item list as well as magical variants of both. In addition we have created magical variants of Dart and Throwing Spear, so that the Throwing Weapon class of items has more options. Fixed: Player units will no longer accidentally move onto a 'spotted' trap (indicated by a man trap icon). This applies in single or group movement and your units w
