Beta Branch now live!2024-01-19Hello Folks! I know some of you are already waiting for the next update to get some ore features into the game, but testing takes quite a lot of time - so to make this process a little bit quicker I decided to introduce a Beta-Branch. What is the Beta-Branch? Whenever I do changes, I will first update them into the Beta-Branch, so however is fine with accepting a bug here and there in exchange to get the next changes earlier can now opt in to use the Beta Branch instead of waiting for the changes going official. This may also be used to "test" different features and give feedback about them without disturbing the main branch - which should ju
2024 Early Access Discount2024-01-14Welcome and happy new year 2024. In an effort to get more eyes on Exipelago, this year is going to start with a huge discount on the current Early Access Version. The main reason for this discount is to attract more players to the game. Plain and Simple. I want you to enjoy the game. I want you to get excited about the concept. If you like the game idea but still prefer to wait, I would recommend to try the free demo version on the steam page or join our discord and talk with other players. Also, if you tell your friends about it, that would be great as well - even wishlisting show's me that there is enough players out there waiting for progr

ORE & METALS!2023-04-18So, this update is a big one - hence the delay since the last update, there was just a lot to add to the game in order to have everything working the way I intended it to be. First off: Ores are now added to the game. Once you start a new game, different ores will be distributed along the underground of the map - let's start digging and get them. Don't forget to also find some coal because without coal you cannot make ingots in a smelter. Also now available is not only the metal workshop but also the new jobtype of metal working (make sure to assign it to someone). If you load an existing game, the ores will be created automatically - that sh
v00.02.022023-03-31Bugfixes: * SaveFile on crash was not working under some circumstances * There was a bug with loading files when things were currently transported to a stockpile during saving * Some graphical glitches fixed * Save Dialog will no longer pre-select the autosave file Additional Information: https://exipelago.com/threads/v00-02-02.56/
Forestry!2023-03-26Another Update with added stuff. This time it's a new automation zone related to tree growing - the Forestry Zone! It basically works like a farming zone but for trees - you create the zone and define which trees should be grown in there. It's your own responsibility to create the apropriate soil beforehand - so if you zone a forestry on grass and set it to grow palm trees, nothing will happen, as palm trees need to grow on sand - so make the soil sand first and everything works as it should. The Forestry will also maintain a separation between the trees, this not only is more realistic but also makes sure that every single tree can be reache
Creative Mode!2023-03-23This update is mostly for those who just wanna build - there is now a Creative Mode! When starting a new game, there is now an option to start the regular Tribe Mode or the Creative Mode. In Creative Mode time is frozen (but you can manually set it with the slider next to the game clock) and everything you do will be done instantly. Building blocks, replacing, chopping, planting and everything will be discovered right away. No Villagers, no hazards, no survival, no challenges - just pure building. This Creative Mode may later be used as map editor, to make scenarios or to just create prefabs - who knows, lots of possibilities! In The Schedule
Material Editor Overhaul + better Sun + reworked Skins!2023-03-21The big part of this Update is actually the Material Editor and all functionality that depends on it - so things are easier now, more things are possible, the Editor now also allows Pasting from the Clipboard (has to be a 64x64 Image, otherwise it will be ingored) and also has an invert button for each Texture Subtype. This basically means, whenever a new Skin is going to be added it's as easy as importing an alpha texture on the right spots, invert it and define the base material and that's it - it's hardly getting any easier than that :) Sun Mechanic The other big change in this update is related to the Sun Handling. So a day is still 12h d
v00.01.552023-03-18Features: * AUTOSAVE! Bugfixes: * Crashes due to fullscreen (again) * Crashes due to Alt-Tab in Fullscreen * under rare conditions game could freeze * changed some labels * saving now slightly faster Additional Information: https://exipelago.com/threads/v00-01-55.49/

Veggies! and more2023-03-16That's a big one - I was tempted to actually raise the minor version number, as at some point I thought it would be impossible to keep existing savegames running, but turned out everything is fine and we can keep the minor release for now and postpone breaking savegames to a later stage (but it will happen) The biggest change in this update is without a doubt the overhauled Item Handler. While the player don't see a lot of it, this thing is basically responsible for loading all assets, structuring & rassembling them in a way so the game can handle it together with all possible material combinations and such - there is a lot of stuff going on
Smoother Movement, Smarter Crafters and more Crops!2023-03-11Another week, another updates - you figured already I guess, I tried to regulate the updates to some point, so there isn't a daily update anymore, this is just to much strain on testing anyway, so I try to provide weekly updates, I can also get more complex stuff into them and it's also a lot of work to actually make release notes, post everywhere and such things - it's quite a task. The Tribes Mood is now displayed in the Tribes Window and will pretty soon be one of the needed variables to get new villagers - feedback for that is a bit lacking (feedback is lacking generally tbh) so I am still in the process of finding a good balance between
New Block Shapes!2023-03-01Quite some work has be done for this update. First of - new block shapes are now available! This also included lots of work for pathfinding and attributes, so hopefully I got all of them and everything works as expected - if not, you know how to reach me. There could be al sorts of issues arrise from the new shapes, maybe I configured something wrong, maybe the pathfinding starts to do crazy things .. technically it should work even better than before, but you never know. Be aware, that none of the new block shapes will block water or light - that's the main reason why there are no thinner walls yet, the water & light system is currently just
Social Needs!2023-02-24With this update a new game mechanic is introduced - a new need for the villagers: Social .. or Recreation. Over the course of a day, villagers will now have a declining need for social/recreation. For this a new Zone Type is introduced, the "Social Area". You can zone this like any other area and villagers will gather there in their free time to gain social interaction. The two items currently most appropriate to place there is either a campfire (villagers will gather around it) or a table. Villagers will then start talking to other villagers using the same item - so don't go crazy with hordes of campfires, it will look weird when they all j

CONTAINERS in Exipelago2023-02-08This update actually brings a new feature to the game, which is not a small one actually, even tho, it's more like a soft-update, as the new functionality is not yet fully exposed everywhere, but the game now supports CONTAINERS. But what's that? A container is basically an item which allows for other items to be stored inside it by a larger quantity than it would be when stored on the floor. With this updates come one of those container in the form of a wooden crate, which can be crafted in the wood workshop. Once crafted, you can place it into a stockpile. for now a Soft-Start Because this is fully new functionality, it currently only works
